Petroleum Technology Development Fund scholarship Award is one of the Fully funded scholarship Programs in Nigeria 2023.

Applications is invited from suitably qualified candidates for the Overseas MSc and PhD scholarships to specific programmes at selected institutions under its PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The PTDF overseas Scholarship Scheme is an annual programme for MSc and PhD studies. The purpose is to provide Nigerian students with the intellectual foundation and skill set that will enable them to participate actively in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry at the conclusion of their studies. The sponsorship duration is between twelve and twenty-four months for MSc, and thirty-six months months for PhD. There are no awards for undergraduate studies under the scheme.

The Strategic Partnership Scholarship was developed to improve the Funds’ Overseas Scholarship Scheme by offering candidates the opportunity to benefit from a diversified pool of knowledge and the facilities offered by world-class institutions across the globe.  Candidates are offered the opportunity to study in world-class facilities where they will also have the opportunity of experiencing new cultures and work environments.

PTDF Scholarship Eligibility

A). Undergraduate:

  • Applicants must be full-time students in any of the Federal Universities listed.
  • Applicants must be in their second year of study.
  • The course of study should be related to the oil and gas industry as advertised.
  • Students must have been admitted into the University in the 2018/19 academic year only.
  • Possess 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO including English Language and Mathematics
  • Possess a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a scale of 5 or 3.0 on a scale of 4 which is equivalent to 2.1 in the first year for the 2018/19 batch of students
  • Applicants should provide their transcripts for the first year of study (transcripts must be signed and stamped by the HOD/Exams Officer or any authorized staff).

B). (ISS) MS

  • Applicants must possess a full-time admission letter into any of the Federal Universities.
  • A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an oil and gas related field or a 2.2 with a minimum working experience of 2 years in the oil and gas industry.
  • The course of study should be related to the oil and gas industry.
    Possess at least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO results (not more than 2 sittings and the two results must precede the first degree)
  • National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or Letter of exemption
  • Certificate of indigeneship (evidence of the state of origin and local government)
  • Personal statement of a minimum of 1000 words stating reasons for undertaking the course of study.

C). PhD (ISS) :

  • Applicants must possess a full-time admission letter into any of the Federal Universities.
  • A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field or a 2.2 in their first degree with a minimum working experience of 2 years in the oil and gas industry
  • A minimum of merit in a second-degree certificate in an oil and gas-related discipline
    Possess at least 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO results (not more than 2 sittings and the two results must precede the first degree)
  • National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate or Letter of exemption
  • Certificate of indigeneship (evidence of the state of origin and local government)
  • The research area must be relevant to the oil and gas industry
  • PhD research proposal of not more than 6 pages. The proposal template can be accessed via the applicant’s profile on the PTDF Scholarship Management Portal.

How to Apply for PTDF Scholarship

Under this scheme, candidates are invited to apply through PTDF to specific programmes at the partner institutions in any of the countries (full list of sponsored courses is available on our website www.ptdf.gov.ng and scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng).

Applicants are advised to scan copies of the following documents and upload to their online application:

  • First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
  • NYSC discharge certificate
  • WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results
  • Local Government Identification Letter
  • Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only)
  • Evidence of membership of professional associations

Important Notes:

  1. PTDF Overseas Masters & PhD Scholarships Applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) before applying for the scholarship. Applicants are also expected to verify their NIN before completing the application. (charges may apply).
  2. Ongoing PhD Candidates could only apply provided their Universities are among the PTDF Partnership Universities as listed above;
  3. Candidates who have benefitted from any of the PTDF scholarships in the past cannot apply for the same type of programme, except a higher programme;
  4. Candidates who are in possession of a higher degree cannot apply for the same type of programme
  5. Candidates who are beneficiaries of any other scholarship need not apply;
  6. Candidates who successfully scale through the first round of screening will be requested to submit their transcripts; all applicants are therefore advised to prepare their transcripts for submission in anticipation of such a request.
